Gong alternative for a small team that works live
Gong tells you what went wrong after the call. If you want help during it, here is what a small team can use instead, with prices checked on 14 Oct 2026.
Quick answer first. If you bought Gong, or you are looking at it, to get better live calls, you want a tool that works during the call and costs a small slice of Gong. If you bought it to forecast the pipeline for a board, keep it, because nothing small replaces that.
What are the most affordable alternatives to Gong?
The cheapest answer depends on what you are replacing. For a record of the call, Fathom is free with unlimited recordings, Claap has a free Basic plan, and Avoma starts at $19 a seat billed annually. For help during the call, CallCopilot is $18.99 a month, NextSay is $16 a month billed annually, and SalesGhost and Backdrop have free plans. Axelize is $40 a month after a free trial. Each of those is cheaper than one Gong seat at Vendr’s range, which is the point of this post.
What Gong costs a small team
Gong does not publish a price, which is the first clue. The best public numbers come from Vendr, which sees what buyers actually pay. Its page for Gong, last updated in March 2026, is based on 1,145 purchases.
$55,359
For per-seat prices, Vendr gives $1,200 to $2,400 per seat per year for mid-market and enterprise buyers, and says some contracts add a base platform or onboarding fee without stating how much. It also says first quotes are typically 20 to 40 percent above the final price. So the sum for five people is five seats at $1,200 to $2,400, which is $6,000 to $12,000 a year, and that is before the platform fee. That is our arithmetic on Vendr’s range, not a quote.
What Gong is for, and what it is not
Gong is a revenue intelligence platform. A bot joins the call, records it, scores it, and feeds forecasts and team reports. It is very good at that. For a leader reading pipeline reports it does a job that nothing else in this post does.
For a founder or a small team the thing you want from a call is “what should I say next time”, and Gong answers that after the call, in a review. Gong’s own research shows what the answer looks like. Gong Labs analyzed 67,149 recorded demos and found that top reps pause longer after an objection and ask a clarifying question, while average reps speed up and run on for 21.45 seconds. It is correlation, not cause. But it describes a behavior you can only change while it is happening, which is during the call.
Which job did you hire Gong for?
| The job | What fits | What it costs, checked 14 Oct 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Hear what happened on a call | Fathom | Free with unlimited recordings. Team $15 a user billed annually, Business $25 (CRM sync and scorecards) |
| Hear what happened on a call | Avoma | Startup $19 a recorder billed annually. Conversation intelligence is a $29 add-on |
| Hear what happened on a call | Claap | Free Basic with 10 videos a user. Pro €24 a user billed annually, Business €48 |
| Do better during the call | A live tool, below | Free to about $70 a user a month |
| Forecast the pipeline | Keep Gong, or Clari or Salesloft | Not published. Nothing small replaces it |
The live options for a small team
These all put help on your screen while the buyer is still talking. The full price tables are in the pricing post.
| Tool | Cheapest plan with live help | Free option |
|---|---|---|
| SalesGhost | Free (5 calls a month). Personal $24.17 billed annually | Yes |
| CallCopilot | Free (4 meetings). Starter $18.99 a month. Mac only | Yes |
| NextSay | Pro $16 billed annually, $24.99 monthly | A limited guest session |
| Convo | Live Assistant is on Professional, $52.49 billed annually or $69.99 monthly | None stated |
| Backdrop | Free with no time limit. Starter $49 a seat | Yes |
| Axelize | Solo $40 a month | No, a trial of 14 days or 5 calls |
Two honest notes. Most of these are cheaper than Axelize, and several have a free plan that we do not. SalesGhost’s free plan alone is a better deal than our trial if you want to try live help for nothing.
Here is what we are doing differently. Axelize writes the sentence in your own voice rather than showing a cue to rephrase. Every plan is the whole product: the account brief before the call, the sentence during it, a light CRM that fills blank fields from what the buyer said, action items and the follow-up draft. No bot joins and no audio or video is recorded, because it reads Google Meet’s captions. What that costs you: it works with Google Meet (Zoom and Microsoft Teams are on the roadmap), there is no free plan, and the transcript text is stored on your account.
Where Gong still wins
Gong does forecasting, deal-risk scoring, a call library and team scorecards, and Axelize does none of those. If a manager above you reads Gong, keep it, and run a live tool next to it. The two do not touch each other’s data, and the page on using them together shows who covers which job.
The math, since this is a small team
Five Axelize Solo seats are $2,400 a year. Five Gong seats are $6,000 to $12,000 by Vendr’s range before any platform fee, and they do a different job. So the real question is not “which is cheaper”. It is which job you are paying for. For a team of five that bought Gong for coaching, paying five figures to hear on Friday what you should have said on Tuesday is hard mode on purpose.
Do you need to replace Gong at all
- List what you actually opened Gong for in the last 30 days
- Find out who reads its forecast, and whether they would miss it
- Count how many of your calls run on Google Meet today
- Price the seats at Vendr’s range for your headcount, platform fee excluded
- Try one live tool on a real call before you cancel anything
