# Microsoft Copilot for Sales, now Sales agent: what it misses during the call

> Microsoft Copilot for Sales is now called Sales agent. It comes with Microsoft 365 Copilot, $30 per user per month paid yearly, on top of a Microsoft 365 plan and a Dynamics 365 or Salesforce CRM. It recaps meetings and updates records after the call. It does not write the seller's reply during the call, which is the job Axelize does.

Microsoft's Sales agent recaps meetings and updates the CRM after the call. What it costs, what it needs before it works, and what to use when you need help while the buyer is still talking.

People searching for "copilot for sales" are mostly looking for Microsoft's product, and
Microsoft has renamed it. What launched as Microsoft Copilot for Sales in February 2024 is now
documented as **Sales agent**, and it has been folded into the Microsoft 365 Copilot license.
Everything below about Sales agent comes from Microsoft's own documentation and pricing page,
checked on 26 September 2026.

The short version: it is a recap and CRM tool that lives in Outlook and Teams. It is not a
live copilot, and it does not claim to be one.

## What Sales agent does

Microsoft describes it as Microsoft 365 Copilot combined with everyday seller workflows,
drawing on "your CRM system, Microsoft Graph, Microsoft 365 apps, large language models, and
relevant web sources" ([Sales agent FAQ](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-sales-copilot/sales-m365-copilot-faq)).
In practice that means four things:

1. **In Outlook**, it summarizes long email threads and drafts replies. The summary only
appears on threads longer than about 1,000 characters.
2. **In Teams**, it writes meeting recaps with action items, conversation metrics and
   sales keywords.
3. **In Microsoft 365 Copilot chat**, a seller can ask about an account or opportunity and get
an answer grounded in CRM records, once an admin has configured which records it can read.
4. **Before a meeting**, it looks up public information about external attendees and their
   company through Bing.

Read the list again and notice the tense. Every one of the four happens before the conversation
or after it. None of them happens while the buyer is talking.

## What it needs before it works

This is where most small teams stop. Sales agent is not something a seller switches on alone.

| Requirement | What Microsoft says |
| --- | --- |
| License | Microsoft 365 Copilot, $30 per user per month, paid yearly |
| Base plan | A qualifying Microsoft 365 plan, bought separately |
| CRM | Dynamics 365 Sales, or Salesforce Sales Cloud Professional and above |
| Install | A Microsoft 365 administrator deploys it and assigns users |
| Meeting insights | The meeting was recorded with Sales agent, with an external attendee saved as a CRM contact |
| Not supported | Shared mailboxes, on-premises Dynamics or Exchange, US government clouds |

and the [Sales agent FAQ](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-sales-copilot/sales-m365-copilot-faq).

For a founder or a five-person team, that is a procurement project before the first recap: a
Microsoft 365 plan, a Copilot license per seller, a supported CRM, and an administrator to
deploy it.

## The part of the call it misses

Microsoft's documentation does not describe Sales agent writing the seller's reply while the
buyer is still speaking. Recaps, summaries, insights and CRM updates are all produced from
something that already happened. A recap is a good record. It cannot change the answer you
gave four minutes ago.

The moment that decides a deal is inside the call: the buyer objects, and you have a few
seconds. Axelize is built for that moment. It [writes your next sentence](https://app.axelize.com/signup) from what it
knows about the account, in your own words, while the buyer is still talking.

**On a negotiation call with Contoso.** The buyer says: “Honestly, we already pay for Copilot. Why would we add another tool?”

Axelize finds: Contoso rolled Microsoft 365 Copilot out to its sales team this year, for email and meeting recaps. (source: contoso.com/careers)

Axelize suggests: “Keep Copilot for the inbox and the recap. We only work during the call itself, so nothing you rolled out this year gets replaced.”

Why it works: Agrees with the tool they chose, then shows the gap it leaves instead of arguing against it.

*An example with a fictional company. The buyer's objection, and the reply Axelize put on the seller's screen.*

## Sales agent and Axelize, side by side

Two tools, two different moments. Every row is phrased so that "Yes" is the answer you want.

| | Sales agent | Axelize |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Writes your reply while the buyer is talking | No | Yes |
| Works without Dynamics 365 or Salesforce | No | Yes |
| A seller can set it up alone, no admin | No | Yes |
| Action items and a follow-up email after the call | Yes | Yes |
| Meeting features on Microsoft Teams | Yes | Not yet |
| Email thread summaries in Outlook | Yes | No |

Axelize is a real-time AI sales assistant. It follows the live call and writes the seller's next
sentence in the seller's own voice, grounded in what it knows about the account. No bot joins
the meeting and no audio or video is recorded. It works with Google Meet today. Zoom and
Microsoft Teams are on the roadmap, so a team that runs every call on Teams cannot use it yet.

**Want help during the call itself?** Axelize writes your next sentence while the buyer is still talking, in your own words. Nothing to install but a browser extension. [Get started](https://app.axelize.com/signup)

## Who Axelize suits better

- **Founders and small teams.** No Microsoft 365 Copilot license, no
supported CRM, no administrator. Install the extension and run your next call.
- **Newer sellers still building their answers.** A recap tells them what the buyer said. Axelize
tells them what to say next, in the seconds when it still matters.
- **Anyone who loses deals in the call rather than after it.** If the objection is where it goes
wrong, a better summary of the objection does not fix it.

## If you already pay for Microsoft 365 Copilot

Keep Sales agent for Outlook and for the recap. It is included in a license you already bought.
Axelize does not replace it, because the two work at different moments: Sales agent after the
meeting, Axelize during it. Run both: Sales agent to write up the call, Axelize to win it.

## FAQ

### Is Copilot for Sales a separate purchase?

Not any more. Microsoft now lists the Sales, Service and Finance agents as included in Microsoft 365 Copilot, which is $30 per user per month paid yearly. You still need a qualifying Microsoft 365 plan underneath it and a supported CRM.

### Does Sales agent work without a CRM?

No. Microsoft's FAQ says it requires a CRM connection, and it currently supports Dynamics 365 Sales and Salesforce Sales Cloud, Professional edition and above. Axelize needs neither, because it keeps the account, contact and product records it uses itself.

### Can I use Axelize and Sales agent together?

Yes. Sales agent works in Outlook and on recaps after a Teams meeting. Axelize works during the call itself. Neither one needs the other switched off.

### Does Axelize work on Microsoft Teams?

Not yet. Zoom and Microsoft Teams are on the roadmap. Axelize works with Google Meet today, through a Chrome extension.
